We caught up with March Meowdness Champ, Cheens for an exclusive interview to learn more about him.

AND NOW MEET The 2017 March Meowdness Champ…
Cats vs Cancer: So Cheens how does it feel to be the March Meowdness Champion?
Cheens: It is the best feeling ever. I spent my first weeks of my life homeless, sick and abandoned on the streets of North Hollywood — and to be able to rise above that adversity, start a Cheensvolution, and earn a Cheensampionship feels almost too good to be true. I could have never imagined this life, but I will never let my new life at the top make me forget about where I came from.
CVC: What did you do to prepare for the tournament?
Cheens: I really stopped and thought about what I would want Cheensmerica to look like, and how I could use my record to prove that I actually am devoted to the issues that I say I am devoted to.
For example:
I told voters that I hide under the bed to avoid people seeing me, and that shows how much I value privacy rights. (Team #Snowden!) I told voters that I don’t think it’s right for my mom to pull me out from under the bed when I’m not even hurting anyone else under there — I should be able to decide what to do with my own body! — and that demonstrates my libertarian view on social issues.
CVC: What are your favorite types of treats?
Cheens: My favorite treat is victory.
CVC: What do you like to do in your spare time?
Cheens: I love to find new places to hide — under the bed, inside of the closet, in an empty space on a shoe rack. I also love to bat at stuff, rub my face on things, watch Modern Family, and, of course, learn all I can about foreign policy.
CVC: Do you have any advice for future contestants?
Cheens: Don’t take this lightly. Make sure that you have read all of the founding documents, and that you understand the limits of power that are set by the Constitution. Make sure you tell your voters that this isn’t just about which cat is cuter — it’s about the future of the free world.
